A shot
reverse shot is a continuity editing technique and it is used when two
characters are talking together or when somebody is looking at an object. The
way that it is done, is that when the a character is looking at the person they
are talking to, the camera switches from an over the shoulder shot to a reverse
angle shot with the person on camera in the first shot looking at the
person/object they were speaking to/looking at in the first shot.
The shot
reverse shot often ties in with the 180 degree rule as it must not be broken to
ensure that the viewer’s sense of location is not distorted when watching the
characters talk.
