The costumes are decided before all the filming takes place.
We decided that for Jack and Conor (the victims in the attack) they would be
wearing casual clothing to look like they were just members of the public that
happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. As this was a sequel to
the first Mugging, we thought that Jack and Conor could be reformed criminals
and this was the reason they blended in with the public. Normally, you’d
associate criminals to be wearing, track suit bottoms, a hoodie and some
scruffy trainers but we didn’t dress our characters like this which shows that
they were reformed. Furthermore, Jack and Conor were wearing smart jeans, nice,
clean shoes and designer coats to again, show that they were changed people in
the final film. However, now that Matt was the criminal, we challenged the ‘scruffy’
stereotype of a criminal by having Matt wear a suit when he committed the
offence. Matt was also wearing a Navy coloured suit to play on the minds of the
audience as we associate a dark colour with evil or darkness within. As he was
wearing this coloured suit, we are lead to believe even before the attack took
place, something bad was going to happen.
See you soon!
